How to Master the Basic Selfie

Selfies are not as simple and basic as they look. There are a lot of factors that make up a great selfie.

1. Face the light. Hold your phone on selfie mode, and spin slowly until you hit the perfect lighting. Facing the light will prevent shadows.

2. Use apps. Don't alter your face, but use certain features of the apps to reduce red eye, blur some imperfections or the background, improve the lighting and filter just perfectly.

Try FaceTune, or Snapseed.

3. Use a professional camera. Yes, take a photo with a real camera. What a concept.

4. Wear selfie approved makeup. Examples are highlighter, bold lipstick, and flawless foundation. These are key.

5. Use props. Sounds lame, and it is, but it can also be cute and make your selfie more interesting. Like a cakepop, a puppy or a flower...

6. Avoid the duck face. Please please take this advice, if nothing else from this post, listen to this. If you have to make a face, the kiss face is acceptable, smeyes are good (assuming you're familiar with the 'smiling eyes' term), or just a regular smile. Anything but the duck.

7. Find your angle. Usually looking slightly up at the camera looks good, and tilting your chin down. Every face has different angles that look good, so play around with them and see which works best.

8. Do not use a Snapchat filter. No context needed (other than I clearly don't take my own advice).

9. Try the finger selfie...Just see the example below.

10. Caption it! NOT with some quote you copied, be creative and come up with your own. It's not that hard.

There you go. Super important advice. You're welcome.
